Carpet package estimator

Calculate carpeted area from multiple room dimensions, enter selected package coverage, and estimate whole packages with your optional allowance.

Measure each carpeted room as a rectangle. Enter the room's measured length and width, the package coverage for the exact carpet you selected, and any allowance you choose. The result shows the area by room and a rounded whole-package estimate.

Enter measured room dimensions and coverage from the selected product package.

This is a rectangular area and package-coverage estimate. It does not plan carpet roll widths, seams, nap direction, stair runs, labor or installation cost. Room shape, layout and usable offcuts affect the amount to order; confirm the takeoff with the carpet seller or installer.

Measure rooms before checking package coverage

Measure the length and width of each carpeted rectangular area in feet, then record each room separately. For alcoves or other non-rectangular spaces, split the floor into rectangles and enter each as a separate row. This calculator totals those rectangles; it does not decide how carpet pieces should be cut or joined.

Lowe's carpet measurement calculator likewise asks for flooring-area length and width and describes its result as an estimate. Its page also notes that measurement is needed to determine an actual project amount. The package coverage used here must come from the selected carpet's own product information.

Sources and method

For each row, area = entered length × width. Total the room areas, multiply by (1 + your optional allowance ÷ 100), divide by the selected package's entered coverage and round up to whole packages. Coverage surplus = whole packages × entered coverage − adjusted area. The package coverage and allowance are user inputs; actual requirements vary with room shape and installation layout.

How it works

Enter each carpeted rectangle as Room name: length x width in feet. Enter the square-foot coverage from the exact selected carpet package and, optionally, an allowance you choose. The tool shows each room area, totals and adjusts it, then rounds up to whole packages. It does not plan roll widths, seams, carpet cuts, stairs or labor.

Good to know

How do I estimate carpet packages for multiple rooms?

Measure each rectangular floor area in feet and enter its length and width on a separate line. Add each length × width area, apply any allowance you choose, divide by the selected package coverage and round up to a whole package. Reviewed November 3, 2026. The result is an area estimate, not a carpet cutting or seam layout.

Where should package coverage come from?

Use the square-foot coverage shown for the exact carpet product and package you selected. This calculator does not assume a universal carpet yield. Confirm ordering units and coverage with the seller or installer.

Does this estimate seams, roll layout or installation labor?

No. It adds rectangular room areas and compares the total with entered package coverage. It does not plan carpet roll widths, seams, nap direction, stairs, cuts, labor or installation cost; layout can affect actual requirements.
