Garage floor coating kit estimator
Estimate whole garage floor coating kits from measured area, planned coats, selected kit coverage and your optional allowance.
Enter the floor area, coat count and coverage for the exact coating kit you selected. Coverage is product-specific; this calculator does not fill in a kit yield or decide how many coats to apply.
Enter measurements and calculate.
Use the coverage for the exact product, kit size and surface from the current label or data sheet. A published practical coverage figure may already include a material-loss allowance; check its basis before adding any extra allowance here. Actual coverage varies. This tool does not determine floor suitability or provide preparation or safety instructions.
How the estimate works
Adjusted coverage area = measured floor area × planned coats × (1 + entered allowance ÷ 100). Estimated kits = adjusted coverage area ÷ selected kit coverage, rounded up to a whole kit. Leave the optional allowance blank to use 0%; any other value is your assumption, not a recommended rate.
Rust-Oleum's EPOXYSHIELD Water-Based Epoxy Garage Floor Coating technical data sheet lists practical coverage of approximately 250 sq ft per kit at the recommended dry film thickness and says the figure assumes 15% material loss. Rust-Oleum's tintable garage floor instruction sheet lists up to 200–250 sq ft per one-car kit. These are examples for specific EPOXYSHIELD products and conditions, not general epoxy coverage rates. If using a published practical rate that already accounts for loss, do not automatically add another allowance.
Rust-Oleum describes its EPOXYSHIELD burst-pouch kit as a one-coat application on its product page. Follow the current instructions for the precise coating you choose; the coat count and coverage should come from that product's own label or data sheet.
This is an area and package-count estimate only. It does not judge concrete condition, compatibility, suitability or application requirements. Consult the selected manufacturer's current label and instructions for those decisions.
How it works
Measure the floor faces to coat and use the coat count and coverage printed for the exact coating kit and surface. Apply an optional allowance only when appropriate for the selected label rate, then divide by the kit coverage and round up to whole kits.
Good to know
Quick answer: how many garage floor coating kits do I need?
Multiply measured floor area by the number of planned coats, apply any allowance you choose, divide by the selected kit's label coverage per coat and round up to a whole kit. Reviewed November 3, 2026. Rust-Oleum's EPOXYSHIELD water-based epoxy technical data sheet lists practical coverage of approximately 250 sq ft per kit at its recommended film thickness and says that figure assumes 15% material loss; this is specific to that product.
What coverage should I enter?
Copy the coverage for the exact product, kit size and surface from its current label or technical data sheet. For example, Rust-Oleum lists approximately 250 sq ft per EPOXYSHIELD can kit at the recommended film thickness, while its instruction sheet says a one-car kit covers up to 200–250 sq ft. These figures are product-specific and may not describe another coating or substrate.
Does the calculator choose the number of coats?
No. Enter the coat count in the current instructions for your selected product. Rust-Oleum's EPOXYSHIELD Garage Floor Coating product page describes its burst-pouch kit as a one-coat system; do not apply that instruction to another product.
Why might actual coverage differ?
The cited Rust-Oleum technical sheet describes practical coverage at a recommended film thickness and states that coverage depends on product and application conditions. Follow the current label and technical sheet for the selected coating and surface. This estimate does not assess whether a floor is suitable or recommend preparation or safety steps.
