Drywall corner bead stock estimator

Estimate outside-corner bead footage and a footage-only stock-length minimum from measured runs and an allowance you choose.

Enter each outside-corner run, the stock length for the bead you selected, and an allowance you choose. The estimator adds the runs and reports adjusted footage plus a footage-only stock-length minimum.

Enter values and calculate.

Measure each run where bead will be installed. The allowance is your assumption, not a recommendation. The stock-length result divides total adjusted footage by your selected piece length and rounds up; it is a footage-only lower bound, not a cut list. Corner-specific clearances, cuts, joint details and offcut reuse affect the actual pieces needed. Confirm bead type, application and installation details in the selected product instructions.

Sources and method

Method: sum the entered outside-corner runs, multiply by 1 + your allowance percentage ÷ 100, then divide by selected stock length and round up. This is a total-footage floor only; it does not allocate runs to pieces, determine compatibility, specify fastening or finishing details, or optimize cut reuse.

For a broader drywall sheet and finishing-material estimate, use the drywall calculator.

How it works

Measure each outside-corner run where bead will be installed. Add the measured lengths, apply only the allowance you choose, and divide by the stock length of the selected bead. The rounded-up count is a footage-only lower bound, not a cut plan or exact purchase count.

Good to know

Quick answer: how much corner bead do I need?

Add the measured outside-corner runs, multiply by 1 plus your chosen allowance divided by 100, then divide by the selected stock length and round up. This gives only a total-footage minimum; cut assignment and offcut reuse can change the pieces required. Reviewed November 3, 2026.

What should I measure?

Measure each outside corner run where the selected bead will be installed and keep a labeled list. USG's Sheetrock paper-faced metal bead guide says to measure a corner and cut the trim to length; for vertical wall installations, that product guide says to cut it 1/2 inch shorter than the wall height. Follow the instructions for the bead you select.

Does this estimator account for bead compatibility or fasteners?

No. Bead types and installation methods differ. This estimator does not choose a bead, establish compatibility, specify fastener spacing, or decide which corners need bead; follow the selected product instructions and project requirements.

Is the stock count a purchase count?

No. It divides adjusted total footage by the selected stock length and rounds up. It does not assign individual corner runs to stock pieces or optimize cuts, so the actual count may be higher.
